Cave Details Updated–Sign up needed by Monday night.

I NEED confirmation you are going by Monday night, so I can tell them.  Bring cash or check.  I have made updates to our caving trip page.  Please read.  I basically clarified what to bring and expect.  Of note is the fact that Chattanooga is in the Eastern Timezone, so you have to leave town at least by noon on Saturday.  Read about the discounted tickets to the Aquarium option on sunday morning.  So far we have 37 people on the list and about dozen people have told me they are going to the Aquarium.    We provide an early BBQ dinner…yum.

If you are not going caving, please consider taking the the BALOO training offered the same day.  http://cubscoutspack40.com/2012/01/baloo-training-sat-21st/

If you are on the fence about this trip (and can fit it into the budget) then I wrote this on the page to convince everyone they should come.

“Imagine exploring the surreal underworld of the Cumberland Plateau and then sleeping in superman’s crystal palace. This will be an incredible life experience and adventure for your scout. Each year, Pack 40 finds a cave to explore and spend the night. This promises to be the highlight of the year! This year we have chosen Racoon Mtn Caverns in Chattanooga. Official Cub Scout cave events must take place in a ‘commercial cave’. Raccoon Mtn really does have it all: Cave, breakfast, Go Carts, Cabins and all the interesting attractions in Chattanooga. Plus, there is not a size restriction for the participants, so this means the larger guys can make it through. Plus it has Go Carts, a full service campground and heated cabins for those that don’t want to sleep in the cave. We will supply dinner, they provide breakfast. This is a relatively easy trip, just bring sleeping pad/bag and cave clothes.”

Call me if you have questions.  http://cubscoutspack40.com/special-events/caving-trip/

We went Bowling!

The pack converged on the lanes at the Strike and Spare to test their bowling skills and enjoy another great pack event.  Many of the kids told me it was their very first time to bowl.  I got a little bowling ball juggling in just for fun.  About half the pack showed up and then half of them ended up at the Chick-Fil-A next door to continue the party.  It was a great bowling party.

Honeysuckle Hill Farm Report

A few brave souls came out and camped the night before in the ‘not so cold’ evening.  The weather forecasters spoke of the next coming ice age that night, but it wasn’t so bad, but is was chilly.  The camp area was just perfect with a big fire ring, big flat mowed field down in a valley, small creek meandering thru it, and of clean porta potty.   The farm provided a big stack of firewood and the kids really enjoyed the classic field and farm campout.  On saturday the sun shone clear and it nearly got hot.  The Farm was bigger and better than ever with new activities.  What was so great about all of the activities, none of them were ‘purchased’, but all made from what some creative person can find laying around a farm.  The highlight for me was watching Sharisse, Laura, Zade and Nicholas going thru the Haunted Forrest.  I was too scared but they faced the ghouls of Scream Creek.

November 8th Pack Meeting

On Tuesday Nov 8th we have a very special (not scary) ghost showing up at our meeting,  This surprise guest has a very special place in history and will give our Cub Scouts a treat that very few scouts have EVER seen before.  I can’t tell too much, but lets say a being that is very special to us all will come to educate and enlighten.  Please DON’T BE LATE.  This ghost may show up early, so everybody be there at least by 6:25.  Don’t forget to be doing good deeds and bring your card written up in advance.

Please BUY SOCKS to bring for the sock Dodgeball event we will have at the end of the meeting.  Dollar General has good prices on a pack of tube socks.  We give away socks each year to the Nashville Rescue Mission.  But before we give them away we roll them up and have a few minutes of free-for-all ‘sock dodgeball’  (basically a sock war). Please go buy a pack of new socks for a donation.

In past years the kids brought lots of socks and had lots of fun.  Good fun for a good cause.
